Music Listens for November 14-18

Besides one instance, seems like it’s been a mostly oldies week.

Atriarch – Forever the End

This new album caught my interest. Brutal yet restrained. The vocals aren’t annoying, and the atmospherics add resonance. Reminds me of something, but I can’t remember what.

Mono – Under the Pipal Tree

Talk about an oldie. I didn’t realize that they released this album way back in 2001! Mono just never ceases to amaze me. I wonder if or when they’ll release a new album.

Jakob – Subsets of Sets

The pretty country in New Zealand must have provided (and continues to provide) some grand musical inspiration. Jakob are another band who must release a new album (soon).

Beast in the Field – Lucifer, Bearer of Light

The Destroying Angel is from Beast in the Field’s newest offering Lucifer, Bearer of Light, and although I’m not sure how much I like it compared to 2010’s World Ending, the new album has some slimy, distortion soaked doom metal goodness to ponder.
