Iron Maiden Touring with Schlock Rock (Avenged Sevenfold)

Here’s a quick one.

The oldsters have joined the newsters it seems, signaling something that has been in the works for a number years: Iron Maiden slipping into the den of commercialism to try to stay present and hip in the heavy metal music community. Why you think? Here goes.

The MetalUnderground article notes that “Metal legends Iron Maiden are reportedly very pleased to announce that Avenged Sevenfold will join them as special guests on the 5th of July at Twickenham Stadium, the 2nd and 3rd at Paris Bercy.” I find this joining of forces to be little troubling, especially because Iron Maiden are one of the archetypal NWOBHM bands, and many would argue they are one of the greatest metal bands ever. So how could they agree to share the same stage with drivel metalers Avenged Sevenfold?

I wish I knew. But to me it seems like quite a step down for the creaky old rockers to let with the newer, less original southern California prancers tour with them. I believe the basis of the band’s playing together might just be to help expose Iron Maiden to a younger, more novice “metal” crowd, while Avenged Sevenfold get to enjoy playing in front of a more knowledgeable metal crowd, a crowd who seem to be getting the shorter end of the stick, in my opinion. I don’t know. I had to say something about this travesty.

One last jab at A7F. Does anyone care to question that their first and most recent album covers are identical to each other besides color? I know this is a stickler observation, but come on guys. Do something!
